Snow Maps

Research in the home performance industry and our own experience in energy efficiency work inform our approach to reaching homeowners. We recognize the importance of visually compelling and vivid messages, as well as comparison to others, in making energy efficiency more salient. We have developed a method that utilizes aerial photography to capture the level of snow cover on roofs, serving as a “community-wide energy audit”. An image on the left demonstrates how the least efficient attics and roofs are easily highlighted.

Creating full-fledged snow maps of the neighborhoods, like this one: https://www.mapsmadeeasy.com/maps/public/17ad1e02b928410d8ed45d2a301e04a7/  will be a tool to identify homes with highest heat loss on the scale of the community which then hence promise the biggest energy savings gain for least cost, when improved.
